The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

  • Scenes from the “new” layout…

Well, maybe not new layout, but perhaps new module! A lot of work put into the module today starting with cleaning all the track first off. All the buildings I needed are in place now, along with all the fencing and trees I’m going to need. I still need to glue down some ground cover… Continue reading

  • Finally here…..!

Finally here as in one module from my old layout! Today I was able to retrieve my one usable module that was part of my old layout from our storage facility. This was part of my Nitto, WV area which included a scrapyard, and Allied Chemical. I’ll probably put my Woodland Scenic’s old Sick N… Continue reading

  • And two more projects for eBay…

While working on the C&NW open hopper, I pulled these two cars out of one train box to weather up for eBay. These two B&O 60’ auto parts boxcars are Walther’s cars, purchased many moons ago while at Caboose Hobbies. The cars had the roofs previously weathered by myself, and a bit of fading via… Continue reading

  • Latest project…..

This morning I’ll post up some photos of my latest project. I have to laugh at myself because I must have been half asleep when I purchased this car new on eBay. I say that because I wanted and was looking for a C&NW covered hopper to weather up instead of this open hopper….lol. Oh… Continue reading

  • Latest acquisition….

I just acquired this well detailed Rapido Evans X72 boxcar lettered for Penn Central. This car and my recent P&LE car will be my two “cleanest” cars, in other words very lightly weathered. You have to have a few clean cars on the railroad! Continue reading

  • The old standby…..

This blog post I’ll talk about my old standby locomotive, PC #5628. This model was my first locomotive when building my past layout, and is an older Atlas model with a Kato drive. The locomotive was purchased with DCC and sound. Of course this guy was in solid black when purchased from the now closed… Continue reading

  • Another addition….

Another boxcar joins the fleet, this one off eBay as well. I thought this car was weathered very nicely. After I received it, I simply weathered the bottom of the car, rusted the brake wheel, and applied lube stencils. It has now joined my fleet! Continue reading
