The Weathering Depot

Latest model finished is this Blackstone HOn3 locomotive, part of an ongoing project for a friend and local modeler. This guy was done with grimy black acrylic paint, rust colored paint for the couplers, and Monroe Models soot powder for what else, the soot effect!

This one was a quick little project, updating the weathering on this car by adding a few patched out areas:

I just acquired this well detailed Rapido Evans X72 boxcar lettered for Penn Central. This car and my recent P&LE car will be my two “cleanest” cars, in other words very lightly weathered. You have to have a few clean cars on the railroad!

Hot off the press is this BN 50’ boxcar, thoroughly weathered with peeling paint, rust, streaks, and hand drawn graffiti. ACI plates added. Just went on eBay:

This week’s photo shows SW1200 #9186 shoving a gondola full of coiled steel into Campbell Manufacturing, a producer of small appliances:

Another boxcar joins the fleet, this one off eBay as well. I thought this car was weathered very nicely. After I received it, I simply weathered the bottom of the car, rusted the brake wheel, and applied lube stencils. It has now joined my fleet!

I’ve just received a great find on eBay with a car I’ve been looking for to run on my module, especially since I model Penn Central. This P&LE car is an Athearn Genesis series car. I’ll weather this one up soon…

Here is the latest car finished, a Walther’s car I believe. Car sides, ends, roof, and underside are all lightly weathered with primarily a dirt colored overspray with some spots of rust here and there. New wheels and Kadee couplers were installed as well. Soon to go on eBay….

I didn’t quite like all the weathering done on the ex-BN covered hopper I previously posted, so I added a bit more! I patched out the Burlington Northern roadname , one side with paint, and one side with patch out decals by Smokebox Graphics.. I then lightly sprayed some rust…
