The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

Another weathered car joins the fleet….

In this post I’ll show an older car I’ve had for some years on the old layout that I decided to rework and weather, then keep in the fleet. This car I believe is an older Roundhouse model with a tie load. This car started out as shown below:

First off, the tie load was reworked using stains by Hunter Line, then the interior of the gon was airbrushed with Vallejo rust color acrylic. I also painted and weathered the underside which previously wasn’t touched with a grimy black/ brown mixture.

The body of the car was faded as well, with rust spots and areas applied with either a tiny sponge and/or brush. Finally, the car was lightly airbrushed with Vallejo dirt color paint, then sealed. Photos below of the finished car:
