The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

  • Out of order – temporarily…

Well, my Paasche airbrush of many years finally bit the dust several days ago, with both the needle, o ring that the aircap screws up against, and a cracked nozzle all conking out. I’ve ordered replacement parts and should be back up and weathering next Wednesday, so stay tuned for updates on these projects. I… Continue reading

  • Weeds and more weeds….!

As I’m unfortunately taking a break temporarily from weathering with my airbrush parts worn out, I decided to weather two sidings on the layout. Starting with the team track, I took some Vallejo light gray acrylic paint and drybrushed the gray on random ties. I followed this up with some dark earth pigments by MiG… Continue reading

  • Always looking…..

I’m always looking for more communication work to do! I’ve pretty much gotten away from weathering locomotives for various reasons and want to concentrate on rolling stock. From light weathering to heavy, if you want that one or more special car(s) to stand out on your layout, just click on the contact tab to see… Continue reading

  • A super hot August day….

Another story from my days on the Indiana and Ohio railroad. During my last year with the railroad as track inspector I was inspecting the Mason Ohio to Lebanon Ohio line one day during the first week of August. This was the line that the railroad at that time ran their own tourist train between… Continue reading

Our crew is back to work this morning switching out the inbound cars the local left for us. Today’s crew is Fred as engineer, myself as brakeman, and Jimmy as conductor. After grabbing breakfast and coffee at the diner we head over to fire up old 8806. Our first order of business is to pull… Continue reading

  • The evolution of a Kyle RR boxcar…

So in this post I’ll be showing the steps I took to weather one of the latest cars I finished and sold on eBay. I have to say this is probably one of the best cars I’ve done. To start off with, this car had three or four layers of weathering mediums on the car,… Continue reading

Today’s an off day from the railroad but being from the local area, I’m down at the diner eating lunch when I notice our other crew has delivered a little unusual car to the team track. It turns out a local area building supply/lumber company out along River Road named Marsh and Truman Lumber has… Continue reading
