The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

  • A little work on the layout….

A bit of work on the layout today as I enlarged the main road/street into three of the industries. Installed several of the old wood crossings as apparently PC had to work with what they had. Continue reading

  • Early morning….

It’s early morning in the community of Addyston Ohio. The smell of pancakes, bacon and eggs from the local diner mixes with the smell from Monsanto Chemical fills the air. It’s not much after dawn when we get to work on the Penn Central. With the thermoses of coffee in hand, Fred, myself, and Jimmy… Continue reading

  • Just arrived…

Arrived today, the Tangent PRR gondola. Wheels, trucks, and underside weren’t painted or weathered but are now! Weathered the underside with three colors of acrylics plus black/grey pigment to simulate built up grime. ACI plates added as well: Continue reading

  • Back at it on the railroad….

Well, another shift back on the railroad, this time first trick. Today it’s Charlie, Jimmy and I handling the switching. Today we’re switching cars into Sullivan scrap, Armitage Furniture, the team track, and Stephen’s Grocery distributors. Another local out of Riverside dropped off these cars to us overnight. Today we’re switching two gons into Sullivan… Continue reading

  • Another story from the Indiana and Ohio….

Here’s another story today from my time on the Indiana and Ohio railroad. There is a crossing on the line over to Monroe, Ohio right next to I would guess the largest flea market in Ohio called Traders World. This crossing is on state highway 63 which runs from Interstate 25 over to Lebanon, Ohio… Continue reading

  • Great show….

This weekend wrapped up yesterday with a pretty good spring train show. I’m surprised several well known manufacturers were not there, such as Athearn for example. Good to see three people I used to work with at Caboose Hobbies plus being able to chat with Michelle from the Colorado Model Railroad Museum, Chris Lane from… Continue reading

  • Two day break….

A two day break here as I stop to attend the Rocky Mountain Train Show.  I’ll be working the booth of The Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. Link here to the show: https://rockymountaintrainshow.com/Default.aspx Continue reading

  • Finishing up switching Monsanto…

It’s now early in the morning with dawn breaking as we’re finishing up with Monsanto. The photos below show our moving the cars off the holding track to the loading/unloading track: When we had finished that task, 5628 shoves the two inbound tank cars down to end of track for us to take off and… Continue reading

  • OMG, it’s a snake….!

The following is a tale from my days on the Indiana and Ohio railroad, this story taking place when I was their track inspector. I one day was inspecting the line up to Lebanon, Ohio, and was just north a bit from a spot called Hageman Jct, an original crossing of the PRR line that… Continue reading

  • A huge thank you….!

A huge thank you to all the new subscribers, followers, and views the past three days, I greatly appreciate it! I know on some websites much like YouTube that owners receive income based on the number of viewers and or subscribers. I don’t make a penny as I’ve never signed up for monetary gain….. • Moving Facebook to the website…

As I posted in the Facebook group I am moving everything to this website after my podcast on May 2nd. I’ll still have The Weathering Depot Instagram account and I may open an account on X for The Weathering Depot as well. This will be a much better set up all around for me as… Continue reading
