The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

  • Walther’s Mainline…..

Today I’m showing a project from I believe two years ago. This car is also a Walther’s Mainline series car purchased from Spring Creek Model Trains. It started out as a bright yellow car which was first faded. I’m posting this to show what can be done with an inexpensive model to make it look… Continue reading

  • Quick project…..

Here is a quick project that took several days to complete. I had forgotten about this model until I went through one of my train boxes checking models to either keep, some to repair, and others to put up on my eBay store. I don’t recall the manufacturer of this guy, but have had it… Continue reading

  • Time and Cost….

Several in the past have asked me especially on my Ebay store about cost, and what is reasonable. As a hobby business I, like any other online store are here to make a profit, not lose money, nor give product away. With that said, I’ve seen models listed for purchase on sites for several hundred… Continue reading

  • My Other Rail Related Hobby….

I think I may have mentioned my other rail related hobby is rail photography, where i derive my prototype photos from for weathering. I’ve been taking photos for decades, and still do today when I have the chance. I miss the old days however of varied types of locomotives, various eras of freight cars, cabooses,… Continue reading

  • Once a week….

I’ve decided once a week I plan to post a different view of my old layout, now disassembled in pieces in our storage unit. I do plan to hopefully use one of my modules shown below to set up in my den/office to have a small switching layout and a display place for finished models.… Continue reading

  • Details, Part 2….

When working on a model for a friend or client, I always look for a prototype photo of the same number car, or a car of the same builder class. I then copy the weathering on that car, the exceptions being when a modeler wants me to freelance the weathering, or wants more or a… Continue reading

  • Details…..

Here I’ll post some detailed photos of past work for clients, showing the process it takes to thoroughly weather a model. Any comments or questions please ask. Enjoy….! Continue reading

  • What I Do…..

For those followers of my previous WordPress website on my Penn Central Hitop model railroad, you already have seen my layout and weathered equipment. For those of you who didn’t get a chance to see my previous website, I invite you to check the March 2016… Continue reading
