The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

Another car for the fleet….

A recent car for my fleet was completed over the holiday break, this one an ExactRail 50’ PC&F single door boxcar lettered for Western Pacific. Shown below is the car new in box purchased off eBay:

I decided to purchase and keep this car as the stencil on the side says when empty return to agent PRR Columbus Ohio. Being from Ohio and modeling Penn Central, this fits right in.

A quick explanation of the weathering on this guy follows. This guy I didn’t fade the paint, but dirtied it up with a brown wash then while wet dabbed with black/grey powder. This was then streaked down the car sides. The underside was finished with usual acrylic paints and powders. To finish the car sides, I applied a light spray of grey to the bottom sill.

The roof was finished using dabbed on washes and powders. Finally, ACI plates were added. Photos below of this car:
