The Weathering Depot

I’ve changed the name of the layout to the Penn Central in Cincinnati to better describe the area modeled, which is an industrial area along the Ohio River west of downtown Cincinnati….

One of the most recent projects was this Walthers Mainline series N&W reefer. This was faded using Vallejo blue grey plus a touch of white acrylic, then going back over the lettering. Rust texture and some weathering powder was also used to finish up:

Great news for those still following and subscribing to the site, we’re coming back! It’ll be very soon with a new look as well. This will also be the new home for my Penn Central in Cincinnati layout, so look for that as well….

Another weekly photo from the layout, this one shows GP7 5628 peeking out from behind the administration building at Monsanto Chemical while switching out the plant during the blue hour:

Currently underway is work on five models including the first one, which is this Atlas Trainman series bulkhead flat. Almost finished, this car has acrylic paints, brown wash, rust texture, and five colors of pigments, four alone on the deck. Next up is probably one of two autoracks ….

I have today upgraded the weathering on my Rapido hopper I currently have up for sale on eBay by adding rust to the roof and sides:

This Walther’s car is now finished and in service on the layout. It was finished with black grey and brown acrylics plus Monroe Models black soot powder finished with engine oil by MiG ammo for the spillage around the dome:

Just put up on eBay this evening is this Athearn PS 50’ ft boxcar. This is a new in the box model, originally a South Branch Valley car relettered for BKTY and weathered with six different weathering mediums…..

More commission work has arrived, five cars from one modeler and ten cars from another modeler! Always looking for weathering work to do, and nothing satisfies me more than helping a modeler and making them happy with a weathered model…

The Tangent PRR car is now finished and in service on the layout! This guy was completed with four colors of acrylic paint, Pan pastels, two colors of pigments and Vallejo rust texture. Photos below of the finished product:

Here is the current project I’m working on instead of the BAR boxcar posted previously. I had a short break in between commission work, so decided to whip this guy out pretty quick. This is one of the Tangent X58 boxcars that are now pretty scarce, especially this PRR scheme.…

This week’s photos shows the entire current layout, the Cincinnati Terminal subdivision. Shows what a modeler can do with limited space on a shelf layout, as my layout is only 2’ ft wide by 8’ ft long! You really don’t need a basement size double deck layout to have fun..,,
