The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

New project….,

Here’s the next project on the workbench, this Athearn 50’ Rock Island boxcar:

This guy will hopefully be turned into this when finished:

I just started on this one yesterday, with the underside primarily being done with a mixture of Vallejo black-grey paint plus medium brown. When dry, a brown wash was dabbed over the underside and while wet brown pigment was applied to that creating this built up dirt and grime look:

In the meantime, the trucks were finished with a spray of roof brown followed by a light dusting of light rust. I’ll apply a light coat of track rust pigment over this as well to finish the trucks:

Next up was applying some light rust paint on several panels where chipping medium will be applied to simulate the peeling paint on the prototype:

Today I’ll apply the chipping medium followed by a faded blue-grey top coat, then peel a bit of paint off, actually scrape a bit of paint off to reveal the rust ! Stay tuned for more progress as I finish this one up for eBay….
