Here is the hew project just started, this one is of course an HO scale Atlas 50’ FMC boxcar lettered for CSX. Below is how the car started out of the box:

I already have the underside done with a brown/grimy black paint plus a wash added then Pan Pastel dirt color added while wet to simulate dirt and grime buildup. The couplers are also done with a rust acrylic paint.
Next was the ends with an overspray where dirt would kick up from the wheels followed by a wet application of rust powder on the ribs. Next up was the side you see below.

I applied a fade to the car with a mixture of acrylic slightly lighter than the royal blue color. This was followed by a light spray of dirt color acrylic. Next I applied the new U Rust product by MIG AMMO down the sides and on the door followed by both reactive agents. This actually lightened the car further with kind of an effect of paint completely washed out on several panels. While wet again track rust powder was lightly brushed on and streaked down. The door wound up heavily rusted with the product, too much actually, so I painted this side door with a color a bit lighter than L&N blue, letting some of that rust show through.
Finally today I first applied a light rust overspray to the roof, followed by dabbing on the same track rust pigment over the roof in spots then covered with pigment fixture. Photo below:

Stay tuned for the finished model…..
