Another project finished…

While off this week I was able to finish another model to go up on my eBay store. This car as you can see is an HO scale Walther’s Mainline series 50’ ACF Railbox car. Photo below shows it new in box:

The car actually took two weeks to complete. Without going into too much detail this guy has four layers of weathering applied using four different mediums, powder, acrylic paint, washes, and rust texture. To model an older Railbox I needed to strip the car of its lettering using a method using MicroSol that can be found all over YouTube. Photo below shows the car stripped of lettering, this after painting with yellow ochre paint followed by light rust paint to match the faded orange look these cars sometimes have:

The doors and roof were done with a new rusting agent by MiG AMMO. Decals were applied first to the top sides of the car, sealed, then followed with a dusting application of dirt colored powder immediately followed by a brown wash, streaking the powder down the sides, thus the dirty effect:

After another sealing, patched areas were painted on using sand ivory paint. These areas and the doors were then sprayed with gloss medium for the remaining decals, especially “newer” graffiti on the doors.

The remaining decals were applied after waiting a day, while the trucks and wheels were painted. The underside was also done at this time with dirt color Vallejo paint. Another final seal along with couplers being lightly sprayed with rust paint and you have the finished car below, along with reflective stripes from Smokebox Graphics applied:
