Back from taking a break, today I’m covering the addition of another small module. This module was the smallest module on my original layout, measuring 2ft wide by about 3 ft long.
I didn’t have as much room as I thought between the first module and our closet so I had to turn the new addition 90 degrees. Still not much room to get into the closet, but enough I think! Here is the new module addition:

The two modules will of course need to both be rewired and obviously the fascia needs touching up eventually. As you can see in the photo above the original roadbed cuts across the surface from top to bottom. This was the original mainline coming out of Dickinson yard on the original layout.
The photo above shows the new module before all the new track was installed. I’m still needing a small section of flex Code 83 track to install the short locomotive pocket at the top of the module. Photo below of the current state of the module:

As shown in these photos I’ve extended the sidings where I needed to accommodate the other industries, except again for the short piece where the locomotive is sitting. Btw, the original roadbed and ballast is or will be covered up with either gravel or weeds to hide it, as you can see in the photo directly above where I’ve extended the road into Armitage Furniture. The various darker spots in the gravel were areas I needed to touch up, which I did so adding some dirt mixed in for some variation.
In the top photo where the tank car is I’ll have Walther’s McGraw Oil Company starting in the gravel area above the siding. In the middle of the module where the bare spot is will be Walther’s Grocery Distributor, with of course the bare spot being covered with gravel. The bottom track where the caboose sits will be a team track using a loading dock from Blair Line. Both McGraw Oil and the grocery distributor is coming from a gentleman who pre-builds these kits and weathers them. Of course around the grocery distributor especially I’ll have some trucks and other vehicles, which I had on the original layout.
Stay tuned for more updates after the holidays, in the meantime, here are a few more photos of the new module with some trees and weeds already in place. Weeds are coming from Scenic Express….
