The Weathering Depot

I have been weathering mainly HO Scale model trains since 2009 for fellow modelers and family. I specialize in freight cars, especially rust buckets. I do anything from light to heavy weathering using a variety of different mediums, sometimes three or four on a single car. I take care with models, therefore a model may take me a week plus. Please check out my work here on my page. My price varies as to how much weathering is requested. I will also for an extra labor and parts charge change out couplers and wheels. My fees and hours are on the "contact me" tab.

Side project….

In between working on more HOn3 models, I’ve been working on this Walther’s Mainline series SP boxcar.

First up was dirtying up the car sides, plus painting and weathering the underside. The car straight out of the box is shown below:

After weathering up the sides and ends the car now looks like this:

The weathering was done with Vallejo paints and powders. I then started on the roof which is more of a layered process. I started the roof by spraying the entire area with Vallejo aluminum paint. When dry, I went over the entire roof with thinned rust texture followed immediately by powder. After dullcoating this layer I went back over everything with dirt colored Pan Pastels to achieve the looks shown below:

All that’s left on the car is to paint and weather the trucks and wheels plus apply ACI panels. This guy may be put on my eBay store, or I may keep this one for use and put a more expensive weathered car up instead. There we have it…!
