Here we go….

Here we go with the new series and our new characters. So let’s meet them! Obviously Steve is myself.  Dan, Charlie,  Chris,  and John along with Bob,  Jimmy,  and Fred are all people I worked with or were closely associated with the Indiana and Ohio Railroad in their early years. In fact,  here’s one of myself and another early employee getting ready to fire up ex BN 1579 which would become I&O 51:

So we went out the other day to catch the action along the Ohio River and caught the crew working with the NW2, along with an ex-PRR cabin. So with Charlie as engineer, myself as head brakeman, and Dan as flagman onboard that left Bob as rear brakeman and Fred as conductor back on the caboose.

The crew started with pulling the empty Gulf tank car out of McGraw fuel and oil as seen below:

The crew then tied the empty onto waiting GP7 5628 out of Riverside that was called out to take any cars back to the yard.

Next, the gang ran down into Sullivan scrap and pulled two gons of scrap out, pushed them in the clear, then pulled into Sullivan’s siding as 5628 backed down the main and tied these cars on:

Next, the crew on 8806 pulled the cabin down and tied onto the empty all door boxcar at Armitage Furniture, pulled both out onto the main, then shoved these onto the back of 5628’s cut:

The crew on 5628 then departed for Riverside yard as the guys on 8806 pulled back down by Armitage so we could head to lunch at the local diner:

As we ran out of railfanning time, we had to call it quits. Next up, we’ll watch the crew switch Monsanto after they came back from lunch.

So who was taking the photos and doing the railfanning while I’m on the crew working? My trusted companion that’s who, my wife, whom I’ve trained in the art of railroading!! In previous posts when I’ve said “we”, now you know!

One more follow-up. It’s ironic that in my times with the I&O I worked on ex-PC lines!
